Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116 and 118 sewing machine review

No-nonsense, Husqvarna quality

For meHusqvarna Viking Emerald 116 sewing machine, the mechanical Emerald 116 and 118 machines represent the jump-off point for the rest of the Husqvarna Viking range. From the push-on presser foot system to the strong and [almost] silent motor, the Husqvarna pedigree is unmistakeable.

These machines have fewer decorative stitches than the entry-level E20, but my experience is that these are seldom used. What they do, they do superbly. Both machines represent perfect no-nonsense sewing machines for those of us for whom sewing is a daily activity. Beloved of schools and colleges, the Emerald 116 will stand up to the indignities of classroom use without complaint. In addition, the 118 benefits from a useful sliding speed control and a needle up-down button.

Suitable for beginners and experienced sewers, alike

The EmeralHusqvarna Viking Emerald 116 sewing machined machines are great all-rounders. Their lack of bells and whistles makes them equally suitable for a keen beginner or a seasoned dressmaker. The machines feature a smooth action foot pedal that allows the user absolute control over their work, an easy-to-use presser foot pressure adjustment dial and drop feed dogs for free motion sewing, a handy slide-out sewing guide, an accessible drop-in bobbin, and a durable hard cover.

Accessories

ThHusqvarna Viking Emerald 116 sewing machine accessoriese accessory pack includes 7 extra presser feet, including a second utility foot, standard buttonhole foot, adjustable blind hem foot, the unique Husqvarna zipper foot (a much better design than the ubiquitous snap-on variety), a non-stick foot, an edging foot for overcasting, and the one-step automatic buttonhole foot.

The superior build quality of the Emerald range is undisputable. Above all, they are reliable work horses that are as useful for dressmaking as they are for home furnishing.

Remember, every sewing machine we sell comes with a half-hour familiarisation session, so you can ‘de-box’ with confidence!
